Presented by Girl Scouts of Southern Appalachians

2024 Trefoil Society Luncheon - East Tennessee

About This Event

Each fall, Trefoil Society luncheons are held in each of the Girl Scouts of Southern Appalachians' regions to honor a woman who exemplifies the spirit of Girl Scouting. The event pays tribute to a distinguished woman from each area who has exemplified herself as a leader in her community and who upholds the traditions and embodiment of the Girl Scout Law.

This year's honoree for the East Tennessee region is Justice Sharon G. Lee. Justice Lee collected many badges as a Girl Scout in her hometown of Madisonville, TN. She graduated from the University of Tennessee College of Business and College of Law with honors. She was the first woman to serve as Attorney for Monroe County, the City of Madisonville, the City of Vonore, and as Madisonville City Judge. When Justice Lee was appointed to the Court of Appeals, she became the first woman to serve on the Eastern Section of the Court in its 79-year history. She was later appointed to the Tennessee Supreme Court and served as Chief Justice of the Court from 2014-2016, being only the third woman to serve as Chief Justice in the state’s history. When Justice Lee retired, her portrait was hung in the Supreme Court—the first portrait of a woman to be displayed in the courtroom.
