Guilford Courthouse Battlefield Tour

About This Event

Join us on November 15-16, 2024, as we travel to North Carolina and explore a critical battle of the American Revolution's Southern Campaign: the Battle of Guilford Courthouse. Using Greensboro, N.C., as our base of operations, the two-day experience will kick off with a Friday evening dinner and lecture given by historian Dennis Conrad, Ph.D., editor of The Papers of Nathanael Greene, discussing Greene’s leadership and various events that led to the Battle of Guilford Courthouse. On Saturday, a day-long guided tour of Guilford Courthouse National Military Park and other associated locations will be led by historian John Maass, Ph.D., author of The Battle of Guilford Courthouse: A Most Desperate Engagement. The tour will closely examine the battle and explore the various combat locations that comprise it. All registration closes on Friday, November 1, 2024.

Registration for Saturday's day-long guided bus tour is currently sold out, though a limited number of tickets for Friday evening's dinner and lecture are now available. Dinner & Lecture – The Leadership of Nathanael Greene and the Prelude to Guilford Courthouse

Friday, November 15, 2024: 5:00 p.m. - 8:30 p.m.

This dinner and lecture at the O'Henry Hotel in Greensboro, N.C., kicks off the two-day battlefield tour experience. The evening begins at 5 p.m., with a cocktail hour (cash bar) and a buffet dinner. Following the evening's meal, a lecture given by historian Dennis Conrad, Ph.D., editor of The Papers of Nathanael Greene, will examine the characteristics and qualities of Gen. Nathanael Greene's leadership and discuss various events that led to the Battle of Guilford Courthouse. The dinner and lecture will conclude at approximately 8:30 p.m.

Battlefield Tour – The Battle of Guilford Courthouse

Saturday, November 16, 2024, 8:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.

Accompanying Friday's dinner and lecture is a day-long guided bus tour of Guilford Courthouse National Military Park and other associated locations, led by historian John Maass, Ph.D., author of The Battle of Guilford Courthouse: A Most Desperate Engagement. The tour will explore the various combat locations and the events that transpired on March 15, 1781, and includes stops and in-depth discussions at the location of the initial fighting and the early stages of the battle, the start of the British attack, the British monument and the first line of General Greene’s army, the Nathanael Greene monument, the British advance and attack on the American second line, the site of action between Lt. Col. Banastre Tarleton and Lt. Col. Henry Lee on the far left of the American line, the British position before attacking the final American line, the fighting that ensued during the attack, and a walk along the route of the American retreat. Attendees will also visit the Guilford Courthouse National Military Park visitor center. The bus will return to the O’Henry Hotel at 4:30 p.m.
