LEADERS ON THE LINE
Thank you for your interest in supporting Junior Leaders from The Woods Project!
A student from The Woods Project requests your help fundraising for their two-week backpacking or kayaking trip to Olympic National Park, Donner Pass/Desolation Wilderness, Breckenridge, or the Apostle Islands National Lakeshore. Thanks to the support of our generous donors, The Woods Project pays $2600 of the cost of their summer trip, and each student must raise approximately $400 for the remaining cost!
Help TWP students by making a one-time donation. A gift in any amount will make a difference!
Thank you for ensuring we can use wilderness immersion experiences to change the lives of high-potential Houston high school students!
About Summer 2026 Summer Trips:
Olympic National Park, Washington
Located in the Pacific Northwest, Olympic National Park offers a diverse and breathtaking landscape, including rugged coastline, temperate rainforests, and alpine peaks. Students will have the opportunity to explore diverse ecosystems, engage in place-based field education, and embark on an extended wilderness backpacking adventure, fostering a deep connection with nature. Your support makes these first-time life-changing summer experiences possible.
Breckenridge, Colorado
Backpack through the Gore Range and the Holy Cross Wilderness, known for its beautiful mountain peaks. Melting snow in the spring plunges from the heights to create thundering creeks, verdant meadows and spectacular wildflowers. While in the front-country, Breckenridge Outdoor Education Center provides opportunities to do high ropes courses, rock-climb, paddle board, build close bonds within the group, and adjust to high-altitude living!
Donner Pass/Desolation Wilderness, California
Situated in the stunning Sierra Nevada mountain range, Donner Pass and Desolation Wilderness provide a picturesque setting for outdoor exploration. Students will experience the beauty of alpine lakes, pristine forests, and challenging trails, gaining valuable outdoor skills and engaging in team-building exercises in this iconic California wilderness. Your support makes these first-time life-changing summer experiences possible.
Alumni Trip: Apostle Islands National Lakeshore, Lake Superior
Members of our Junior Leader Program embark on a transformative journey with us to the Apostle Islands, where they will experience the beauty of Lake Superior through hiking, sea kayaking, and leadership development workshops. This immersive two-week adventure offers a unique opportunity for personal growth and connection with nature, as participants disconnect from the distractions of modern life and embrace the challenges of the wilderness. With your support, we can provide this life-changing experience to deserving young leaders, empowering them to discover their strengths, build resilience, and forge lifelong friendships.
Alumni Trip: Donner Pass 10-Day Backpacking Expedition
Students may alternatively choose a 10-day backpacking trip through Donner Pass and the surrounding Sierra Nevada. This route includes alpine lakes, granite ridges, forested valleys, and historic trails. Participants practice long-distance trekking, map-and-compass skills, backcountry cooking, group decision-making, and risk awareness while developing leadership and independence.
