About Usher 1F Collaborative
Usher syndrome is the leading cause of inherited deaf-blindness. Usher syndrome type 1F (Usher 1F) is among the most severe forms, with children born profoundly deaf and progressive vision loss beginning in childhood. This vision loss worsens through adolescence ultimately resulting in complete blindness in adulthood. Founded in 2013, Usher 1F Collaborative is dedicated to funding medical research aimed at preventing or curing the vision loss associated with Usher 1F. Wth the Collaborative in place, $14.8 million has been invested in research, helping to advance two gene therapies that are now nearing the completion of preclinical development and are poised to enter human clinical trials.
