About This Event
Film Screening: The Children's Train
2024, PG, 1 hr 46 min, Drama
Set in post-World War II Italy, this heartwarming film follows young Amerigo as he reluctantly leaves his impoverished life in Naples to live with a host family in northern Italy as part of the "treni della felicità" (trains of happiness) initiative. Organized to help struggling southern children, the program brings Amerigo into the home of Derna, a former partisan, and her brother's family.
As Amerigo navigates life in an unfamiliar place, he discovers new passions—including music—while grappling with homesickness, cultural differences and the complex emotions of a child caught between two worlds. Through moments of conflict and connection, the film explores the different ways people show love and the difficult choices families make for each other.
Based on the true historical program that transported thousands of children from southern to northern Italy, this deeply human story examines themes of belonging, sacrifice and the profound bonds that can form in unexpected places.
Free community event.
Light refreshments will be served.
