For 70 years, Scranton's UNICO Chapter has spearheaded community service efforts, holding the distinction of being the nation's largest Chapter. Their activities enhance life in the local community while supporting national causes and promoting Italian American culture. To facilitate charitable giving, they established the Scranton UNICO Foundation, enabling the organization to host fundraising events benefiting both local and national charities.
Dunmore native Vic Fangio, in his second season as Philadelphia Eagles defensive coordinator, has 39 years of coaching experience, including 26 as coordinator. In 2024, he orchestrated one of the NFL's most remarkable defensive turnarounds, leading the Eagles to their second Super Bowl championship by defeating Kansas City in Super Bowl LIX. Under his leadership, Philadelphia ranked first in total defense (278.4 ypg) and points allowed (16.9 ppg) after finishing 26th and 30th, respectively, the previous year.
Fangio previously served as Miami's defensive coordinator (2023), Eagles consultant (2022), and Denver Broncos head coach (2019-21). He coordinated Chicago's defense (2015-18), winning AP NFL Assistant Coach of the Year in 2018, and San Francisco's defense (2011-14), reaching three NFC Championship games and Super Bowl XLVII.
Earlier in his career, Fangio coordinated defenses for Stanford (2010), Houston (2002-05), Indianapolis (1999-2001), and Carolina (1995-98). He began his NFL career with New Orleans (1986-94), coaching the famed "Dome Patrol" linebacker unit.
Fangio began his coaching career at his alma mater, Dunmore High School, working with linebackers (1979) before becoming defensive coordinator (1980-81). He then served as defensive coordinator at Milford Academy (1982). A native of Dunmore, PA, Fangio graduated from East Stroudsburg with a bachelor's degree in health and physical education and was elected to the Northeast Pennsylvania Hall of Fame in 1993.
Throughout his career, Fangio has mentored five Pro Football Hall of Famers: Kevin Greene, Rickey Jackson, Ray Lewis, Sam Mills, and Patrick Willis. His family includes son Christian, daughter Cassie, grandson Xavier, and longtime girlfriend Kathy Maruyama.
