Engaging Community with Care: A Trauma-Informed Care Training Series with Amy Fleischauer, LMSW
September 16th, September 30th, and October 14th from 10AM -1PM via Zoom
Join us for a three-session training designed to equip participants with practical tools for understanding trauma, building meaningful connections, and supporting individuals who have experienced harm and loss. This training is intended for church leaders who are interested in responding to communities after a socio-economic or natural disaster.
Session 1: Trauma & Trauma-Informed Care
Gain a foundational understanding of trauma and its impact on the brain, behavior, and relationships. Participants will explore how re-traumatization can occur in everyday interactions and learn the core principles of trauma-informed care.
Session 2: Sequence of Engagement
Learn about Dr. Bruce Perry’s Sequence of Engagement, a framework for effectively connecting and communicating with individuals experiencing trauma or dysregulation. Participants will examine proactive strategies and in-the-moment responses that foster safety, trust, and connection
Session 3: Impact of the Work, Loss & Meaning Making
Explore both the challenges and rewards of working with individuals and communities that have experienced harm. This session will address the effects of helping work, strategies for supporting those experiencing loss, and ways trauma-informed care principles can promote healing, resilience, and meaning-making.
Who should attend?
This training is ideal for clergy or laity who are interested in responding to communities after a socio-economic or natural disaster. Upon completing this training, you may be called upon to support local communities after a socio-economic or natural disaster - under the direction of the Conference Disaster Response Coordinator.

About the trainer: Amy Fleischauer, LMSW
Amy is a nationally recognized subject matter expert on human trafficking, intimate partner violence and the implementation of trauma-informed care within diverse systems. She works for the Institute on Trauma and Trauma-Informed Care, providing coaching and training to systems interested in changing their culture of work through a commitment to trauma-informed practices. Amy also is a consultant at the Howard G. Buffett Foundation, providing training and technical assistance to social and legal service providers implementing innovative anti-trafficking programming
