About This Event
Valley Lutheran School invites adults and youth of all ages to our Set Apart Family Conference happening the morning of Saturday, August 23rd. The conference will be held at the school and is FREE! We are planning programming for all ages!
Adults: How are we called as Christian parents to raise our children differently? This conference is for all who want to make intentional decisions to set their children up in the best way they can for a life filled with faith, joy, and success. Our main speaker is Michelle Bauman, Director of Youth4Life, a division of Lutherans for Life, from Indiana. She will share with us, in part, how to talk with your child, no matter their age, about major life issues. We'll even have a breakout session with multiple speakers centered around major parenting questions! Leave feeling encouraged, with practical tools, and new connections with other Valley families. ***Each parent who attends can earn 3 hours towards their Crusaders Family Service Grant!
Middle Schoolers: Being set apart means our lives look different, no matter how old we are. All 6th - 8th graders will explore how the Lord calls us to be set apart by being a servant! During their time together, Middle School will travel by bus to the Eastern Iowa Food Bank to serve for two hours. As a bonus, they can earn two hours towards their service hours! Don't worry, there will still be plenty of time for fun and reconnecting with friends, as well as making new ones!
Kindergarten - 5th graders: During this VBS-style morning, our elementary students will explore how they are called to be set apart. Through Bible lessons, games, art, and even a service project, your student will leave with a greater understanding of why the Lord wants us to be in the world but not of it.
6 weeks - Preschool: We have arranged care for our youngest friends to be overseen by licensed daycare provider and Valley parent, Crystal Philp, so that adults may focus on the Conference. Parents may begin dropping off their littles at 8:00 am at nearby Immanuel Lutheran Church. Feel free to park at Immanuel and walk the two blocks to Valley if the weather permits. We will have a nursing mothers' room at Valley for those who wish to keep children under 1 year old with them.
*If your high school student is interested in volunteering to shepherd our elementary students from activity to activity, assisting with a station, or helping with our infants and preschoolers, please register them as well. Service hours will be available.
Agenda:
7:45 - 8:30 Continental breakfast
8:00 Drop off of 6 weeks - Preschool begins at Immanuel begins
8:10 - 8:30 Check in for Adults, Elementary, & Middle School
8:30 - 11:45 Sessions
