About This Event
The Venice Design Series showcases the remarkable architecture, brilliant design, and innovative culture of Los Angeles through a social justice lens. All proceeds help Venice Community Housing further our mission of promoting affordable housing and supportive services across LA’s Westside.
The 2025 Venice Design Series guests will learn about LA’s history through tours of the Venice and West Adams neighborhoods.
April 26: Exploring Our Own Backyard — Venice
Our journey begins in Venice, where we’ll visit the Venice Beach House, a historic social hub. We'll stroll along Park Avenue, past the home where Abbot Kinney himself once lived, where we'll visit an original mail order home and other early-20th century residences, including the home of Arthur Reese. Reese was the designer of the Venice Boardwalk, commissioned by Abbot Kinney, and the first Black homeowner in Venice. We’ll also have the unique opportunity to view the original mural inside the historic Venice Post Office—no longer an active post office, but recently restored and ready for its next chapter.
May 3: A Walk Through History — West Adams
On May 3, we’ll explore the historic West Adams neighborhood, home to stunning turn-of-the-century estates, including the Rindge Mansion and the Guasti Villa. Our tour also includes a visit to the original home of Paul Revere Williams, the pioneering architect who was the first Black member of the American Institute of Architects. Williams left an indelible mark on Los Angeles, designing the iconic Theme Building at LAX, leading the revitalization of the Beverly Hills Hotel in the 1940s, and creating homes for luminaries like Frank Sinatra, Lucille Ball, and Desi Arnaz.
Some tour locations are pending confirmation. A detailed itinerary with all locations will be sent to guests prior to the event dates.
