About This Event

"Honoring Veterans during VonnegutFest with Paul Hendrickson
November 10th, 2025

As part of our ongoing 2025 Year of Journalism, we’re honored to welcome Paul Hendrickson, acclaimed author and Honorary Chair for the year, for a special VonnegutFest conversation.

Hendrickson will share reflections on fear, honor, heroism, and redemption, themes that run through his nonfiction work.

Drawing from three of his celebrated books, Hendrickson will explore:

  • His 2011 portrait of Ernest Hemingway, who served as a Red Cross ambulance driver in World War I.

  • His 2024 chronicle of his father’s service as a P-61 Black Widow pilot off Iwo Jima near the end of World War II.

  • His 1996 work about Vietnam, one part of which featured a Marine door gunner in a helicopter unit, who is still living today.

This talk will be followed by an audience Q&A.

Join us for an evening of remembrance, storytelling, and reflection on the courage and humanity that connect generations of veterans and the writers who honor them.

Tickets are $12 for KVML Members, and $18 for General Public
