About This Event

In his new book, “Lieutenants and Light: Mapping the U.S. Army Heliograph Networks in Late Nineteenth-Century Arizona and New Mexico,” Robert E.C. Davis draws from official reports, firsthand accounts, and archival maps to tell the story of the officers and military priorities behind the over 90 heliograph stations across Arizona and New Mexico. Established in the late 1800s,  these stations formed an expansive communication network that played an important role during the military campaigns.
