Beyond the Basics: Advanced Bonsai Refinement

Registration ends Monday, 02/23/2026 8:00pm EST

About This Event

WVBG Horticulturist and Pittsburgh Bonsai Society Member Ed Mason will discuss and demonstrate techniques and ideas to help you move from basic bonsai into refinement stages. Bonsai refinement includes procedures done for bonsai trees after the basic structure and branches have already been trained. Branches are fine-tuned and a progression of branch sizing is developed. Trees are normally moved out of training pots and into smaller and more attractive hardened clay pots. Pot size and shape selection considerations will be discussed, and a repotting demonstration will be done of a larger bonsai moving into refinement. $5 for WVBG members, $15 for non-members. Preregistration is required.
