Drinks with Our Ape Dads

About This Event

Celebrate the fathers and father figures in your life this Father's Day with a one-of-a-kind sanctuary experience at the Center for Great Apes—Drinks with Our Ape Dads.

This special warm-weather visit invites guests to cool off with refreshing lemonade, iced tea, and light refreshments while learning more about some of the incredible great ape dads and dominant males who call the sanctuary home. Similar in format to our Afternoon with the Apes tour, this experience offers meaningful stories, behind-the-scenes insight, and time spent observing our residents in their habitats.

During this special experience, participants will also have the opportunity to hear from our Founding Director, Patti Ragan, who will share insights into the sanctuary’s mission, its history, and the important roles ape dads and dominant males play within their social groups.

During this guided walking tour, participants will have the opportunity to learn about the unique roles ape dads and dominant males play within their social groups—ranging from protectors and peacekeepers to patient companions and steady leaders. You’ll hear the personal stories of individuals who have come from backgrounds in entertainment, research, or private ownership and now receive lifelong care at the sanctuary.

This guided walking tour (approximately ½ mile on shell-rock paths) will give you the opportunity to:
🥤 Meet some of our great ape dads and dominant males and learn their individual stories
🥤 Learn how the Center provides a safe, enriching environment for nearly 70 great apes in need of lifetime care
🥤 See the sanctuary’s unique habitats and aerial trailways that allow apes to explore and choose where to spend their time
🥤 Enjoy a relaxed, refreshing break with cool drinks and light refreshments along the way

While the Center for Great Apes is not open to the public as an attraction, Drinks with Our Ape Dads offers a rare educational opportunity to see our mission in action while celebrating fatherhood, leadership, and connection—both human and ape.

Whether you’re honoring a dad, spending quality time together, or simply looking for a unique summer experience, this event is a cool and meaningful way to connect with the sanctuary and its residents.

Ages: 10 and up
