Muffins with Moms

About This Event

Celebrate Mother’s Day in a meaningful and memorable way at the Center for Great Apes with Muffins with Our Ape Moms—a special morning experience honoring both the human moms in your life and the incredible great ape mothers who call the sanctuary home.

This guided morning visit is similar in format to our popular Afternoon with the Apes tour, with a few thoughtful extras just for the occasion. Guests will enjoy light breakfast pastries and beverages before heading out to learn more about some of the remarkable ape moms at the sanctuary and the unique stories that brought them here.

During this special Mother’s Day–inspired experience, participants will also have the opportunity to hear from our Founding Director, Patti Ragan, who will share insights into the sanctuary’s mission, its history, and the powerful bonds between ape mothers and their families.

This guided walking tour (approximately ½ mile on shell-rock paths) will give you the opportunity to:
🧁 Hear the personal stories of our great ape moms, many of whom were retired from entertainment, research, or private ownership
🧁 Learn how the Center provides a safe, enriching environment for nearly 70 great apes in need of lifetime care
🧁 See the sanctuary’s unique habitats and aerial trailways that allow apes to explore and choose where to spend their time
🧁 Gain a deeper appreciation for the role of maternal bonds—both human and ape—within sanctuary life

While the Center for Great Apes is not open to the public as an attraction, Muffins with Our Ape Moms offers a rare educational opportunity to see our mission in action while celebrating Mother’s Day in a truly one-of-a-kind way.

Whether you’re treating your mom, spending time together as a family, or honoring the idea of motherhood itself, this heartfelt experience is a beautiful way to start the day.

Ages: 10 and up
