About This Event
Food insecurity is closer than many people realize, affecting families, children, seniors, and individuals throughout our own community. Join us for an eye opening conversation as we explore the realities of hunger, the impact it has on physical and emotional health, and the challenges many face in accessing nutritious food.
Hear from local experts, including a nutritionist, community leaders, and those working directly to address food insecurity. Learn how a lack of healthy food affects children and families, discover practical ways to prepare nutritious meals on a limited budget, and see how local programs, food pantries, and community partnerships are helping provide hope and solutions.
Together, we’ll explore what is being done to fight hunger in our community and how each of us can be part of the solution.
Hunger in Our Backyard is more than a discussion about food. It’s a conversation about dignity, health, hope, and caring for our neighbors. Join us and discover how small acts of compassion can create lasting change.
We’re excited to announce a powerful lineup of speakers for the upcoming Waymaker Luncheon:
Timeka Gray - Chef and Director of First Fruit Ministries' food pantry, helps prevent malnutrition and demonstrates cooking healthy options
Lee Anna Stoker - Executive Director of First Fruit Ministries, will share the connection of the food pantry to Human Trafficking
Amy Stanley - School Nutrition Director with the New Hanover County Schools Nutrition Team, Operations Division
Brittanie Frieze - Food Partnerships Manager, Food Bank of Central and Eastern NC, will share her perception of local food scarcity issues
