The Unwritten Rules of Influence — Navigating Workplace Power & Politics with Confidence

Wednesday, November 4, 2026, 9:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.

The Sycamore at Mallow Run

7070 W Whiteland Rd Bargersville, IN 46106

Power, politics, and influence are part of every workplace—whether we enjoy them or not. This interactive Women in Leadership seminar will help participants understand how decisions really get made, how relationships and informal networks shape opportunity, and how to influence others while staying true to their values. Through lively discussion, practical tools, small-group activities, and real-world scenarios, participants will build confidence in advocating for themselves, supporting others, and navigating workplace dynamics with greater skill and intention.

Learning objectives:

1-Recognize how power, politics, and influence show up in everyday workplace interactions, decisions, and opportunities

2-Identify your own sources of power and influence

3-Use practical strategies to build trust, strengthen relationships, and advocate for ideas, resources, and yourself with greater confidence

4-Navigate workplace politics more intentionally by reading the room, understanding stakeholder interests, and choosing influence tactics that align with your values

About the Facilitator

Carolyn Goerner is a clinical professor at Indiana University’s Kelley School of Business, where she teaches negotiation, leadership, communication, and organizational behavior. Before joining Kelley, she spent 10 years as a human resource consultant, helping organizations measure and develop human capital.
