White Privilege: Let's Talk (Spring 2021)

Registration has ended

About This Event

White Privilege: Let's Talk—A Resource for Transformational Dialogue is an adult curriculum that's designed to invite participants to engage in safe, meaningful, substantive, and bold conversations on race.

The Oklahoma Conference of Churches is proud to offer this curriculum as part of No Hate in the Heartland, a campaign to promote equity, truth, and love in the state of Oklahoma. We believe positive change will come when those in the majority are able to examine their privilege and understand the barriers created by society for the least among us.

We are asking for a fee of $15 to help support the time and energy of our facilitators. Scholarships are available!  Please email okchurches@okchurches.org for details.

Confidentiality and safety are of utmost importance to us. Please know that we are taking steps to ensure that this course will be a safe place.

Training Dates (please make sure you are able to commit to all sessions!)

April 11: 2:00 - 3:30pm

April 18: 2:00 - 3:30pm

April 25: 2:00 - 3:30pm

May 2: 2:00 - 3:30pm

May 9: 2:00 - 3:30pm

May 16: 2:00 - 3:30pm

Divided into four focused parts, each one introduces a different aspect of the dynamic of white privilege:

1. The Spiritual Autobiography Told Through the Lens of Race
2. Whiteness as the Norm: Five Loci of Insights on the Binary of Light/Dark and Black/White
3. The Cash Value of Whiteness or Whiteness as a Tax-Exempt Status
4. On Becoming an Ally

In all four parts, each author contributes a different view of the subject matter presented based on their unique personal experiences. The materials include questions for discussion and reflection.

Gratitude to the Massachusetts Conference of the United Church of Christ for providing this material free of charge.
