Paula's story

Meet Paula,* a mom who was lost. Her 14-year-old son was sneaking out at night. He was distant and angry. His drastic behavior changes made her wonder if he was depressed or if the marijuana he was using was laced with something else.

Having a peer coach to talk to–one who wouldn't judge her and who was equipped with resources and tools to share–made an incredible difference.

“The biggest surprise was just feeling like I wasn’t crazy, and I wasn’t alone,” she said. “The moment I felt desperate was the moment I felt most disconnected. This program reminded me there’s tons of parents dealing with this, whether they know it or not.”

Recently, Paula and her son were driving home through a storm. It was only about a two-mile drive, but it was flooding, and the weather was severe. As she was driving, Paula’s son kept his hand on her shoulder until they got home safely.

Those days when he was disconnected, when he didn’t want to be hugged, have passed.

“He’s back,” she said. “He’s very loving person. It’s taken a while, but we’re back to where we were. Maybe it’s different, but that’s ok.”

This Giving Tuesday, join our #15for15 campaign

Thanks to the kindness of supporters like you, we're proudly celebrating our 15th year of sharing addiction wellness. We’ve reached nearly 9,000 individuals, including moms like Paula, in our 15 years.

By making a $15 monthly donation, you will provide no-cost addiction care–care that is meaningful, cost-effective and honors each individual's unique journey.

We help individuals impacted by alcohol and other drug addiction, including loved ones, through compassionate, professional peer coaching.

For many people, peer coaching is the missing piece of the wellness puzzle. Families have dinners together again. Individuals break the cycle of incarceration and recidivism. They meet goals and mend relationships and find meaning in their work again.

We hope you'll join us this Giving Tuesday by committing to a $15 monthly gift so we can continue to walk alongside moms like Paula. For every $1 spent on coaching those with addiction, there's a $12.40 social return on investment to the community.

We’re a 501(c)(3) nonprofit with beautiful success storiesextensive data and outcomes and a three-star rating on Charity Navigator.
