Did you know that 42% of teens say they experience persistent feelings of sadness? And that suicide is the third leading cause of death in 15-29 year-olds? So what can we do to change that? Community. When teens are alone they feel sad, but when they have a place to belong, to feel heard, and to be seen: that’s when those feelings can start to disappear. Youth For Christ provides exactly that.
Our weekly Campus Life clubs give students a place to come and meet other students, to receive a snack, play games to build shared experiences, discuss relavent issues and tackle the things life throws at them from a Biblical perspective. YFC is currently in 4 local high schools, 1 youth center and a behavioral health center reaching 500+students.
But what if we could reach more? What if everyone of the 100,000+ teens in Alaska had a place where they felt like they could belong? That they could be heard? And seen? And that they matter? How would that change those statistics? How many lives could be saved if these students just knew the value they had and that they weren’t alone?
We believe with your help we can begin to expand and INCREASE OUR IMPACT in the state of Alaska. With your partnership we can expand from Chugiak to the Mat-Su Borough, from East High school down to Homer, from Northstar Behavioral center back to the home villages of these students.
Each club we are able to establish is that many more students who have a chance to find a safe place to start to unpack those feelings of sadness and loneliness. Each staff member we are able to hire enables us to raise up more passionate adults who can show these students they matter.
Would you consider partnering with us through our disc golf tournament to Increase our Impact on the lives of these teens in our state?
