Course Goals: Improve vocabulary, grammar, reading, writing and conversation skills and learn about Jewish life in Eastern Europe while reading wonderful stories by one of the masters of Yiddish literature.
Course Tools: Stories from Isaac Bashevis Singer’s memoir In mayn tatns besdn-shtub (In My Father’s Court) as well as the Hemsheykhim-zamlung/Sequel Collection, one of the classics of Yiddish literature. Chapters and grammar will be provided by the instructor. Stories that were read last year or last semester will not be repeated.
Additional Info: This course is designed for those with approximately four or more years of Yiddish language study and who have completed Yiddish: An Introduction to the Language, Literature & Culture, Vol. II by Sheva Zucker, or the equivalent, and beyond.
This course will be taught entirely in Yiddish.
