Thursday, 1:00 – 2:30 PM ET: Feb. 26, Mar. 5, 12, 19, 26, Apr. 16, 23, 30, May 7, 14
Course Goals: This continuation course builds directly on the previous Intermediate I semester and further supports students’ transition into intermediate Yiddish. The focus will be on strengthening spoken fluency, improving reading comprehension, and developing greater grammatical awareness, with increased emphasis on sustained conversation and longer texts.
Course Tools: We will continue working with Yiddish: An Introduction to the Language, Literature, and Culture, Volume I by Sheva Zucker (available for purchase here), beginning with Chapter 5. Classes will emphasize group practice of dialogs, guided reading of selected texts and songs, and contextual exploration of grammar. Additional instructor-provided materials will be used as needed.
Additional Info: This course is designed for students who have completed the previous Intermediate I semester or have an equivalent background, including four or more semesters of beginner-level Yiddish and/or work with textbooks such as Colloquial Yiddish by Lily Kahn or In Eynem by Asya Vaisman Schulman et al. Prior knowledge of the Yiddish alphabet and comfortable reading skills are required.
