Sh. An-Ski is a fascinating figure in Yiddish literature. He published approximately eighteen volumes of his works and he is most famous for his song Di Shvue and his play Der Dybbuk. We will look at examples of his poems and stories, read and explicate The Dybbuk and delve into his research into Yiddish folklore. His life is fascinating — a kheyder-yingl, a coal miner, a social revolutionary, who found in Yiddish folklore a response for an eternal ideology in Jewish life.
This course is taught entirely in Yiddish.
