YMCA Girls on the Turf: A Flag Football Fest

Donate

About This Event

It’s simple! Girls on the Turf was founded by two high-school freshmen in the spring of 2024, who also happen to play on the same AAU basketball team; Nora Bruder (Rocky River High School) and Jules Cerny (Elyria Catholic High School). Girls on the Turf, a one-day flag football tournament, was started to provide a fun atmosphere where local high school girls come together, support one another, have fun, and give back, all while doing something together within the communities they live.

Realizing that there was not a league for girls outside of their respective high schools or through CYO, Jules and Nora decided to see if there would be any interest between their friends to start a flag football league within their local YMCA chapters. And so, Girls on the Turf was created! With some support from their parents, Jules and Nora are hopeful that this one-day fest will turn into a spring league throughout northeast Ohio, and this event will just be the beginning for future flag football leagues for local high school girls.

Why: To support girls who have an interest in playing flag football at the high school level. The proceeds will benefit local northeast Ohio YMCA chapters to reduce costs and/or fund future flag football leagues in lieu of high schools that do not have a girl’s program.

If you are interested in playing and in need of financial assistance, please reach out eryan@clevelandymca.org.
