Maus: A Survivor’s Tale
by Art Spiegelman

Maus is a Pulitzer Prize-winning graphic novel by Art Spiegelman that tells the story of his father, Vladek Spiegelman, a Polish Jew and Holocaust survivor, interweaving his harrowing experiences with the author’s own difficult relationship with his aging, traumatized father, using animals to represent different groups: Jews as mice, Nazis as cats, and Poles as pigs. It’s a “tale within a tale” exploring survival, memory, guilt, and the lasting impact of trauma across generations.
