Did you know that more than 29 million Americans will experience an eating disorder in their lifetime and every 52 minutes someone dies as a direct result of their eating disorder? Unfortunately, less than ⅓ will ever receive access to care. The National Alliance for Eating Disorders, the leading national nonprofit for eating disorders, has worked tirelessly over the past two decades to change these statistics. That is also why Dear Me was created. Dear Me, provides education and support to help change the negative impact of diet culture and the incidence rates of eating disorders in middle and high schools across New York and nationwide. 
 
On Sunday, October 15th, I will be participating in the National Alliance for Eating Disorders and Dear Me’s Southern Smash: NYC. We will be coming together as a community to smash scales, participate in a variety of body liberating activities, and celebrate recovery!
 
Proceeds from this event will directly fund the Dear Me program, which includes education and support service in the New York area and beyond. 
 
The National Alliance for Eating Disorders is the only national nonprofit organization that provides free, weekly, therapist-led eating disorders support groups; a therapist-staffed helpline that offers referrals for all levels of eating disorder care; low-cost therapeutic services for uninsured and underinsured individuals; and unique and empowering Southern Smash events. Simply put, The Alliance saves lives.
