I had a typical pregnancy right until the end, like most preeclampsia patients. My blood pressure started to creep up, leading to delivering my baby at 37+1 via induction. I was incredibly fortunate to have a smooth induction and a healthy baby. I was told that delivery would cure my blood pressure issue, but 7 or 8 days postpartum I began to feel very ill. After being dismissed by the weekend staff at my OBGYN, I made an appointment to be checked and my blood pressure was shockingly high at over 160/100. I was admitted back to the hospital without my baby or husband due to COVID19 restrictions. I was once again incredibly lucky to avoid complications such as stroke or organ failure and I got to go home after 24 hours of a magnesium drip. My story could have ended differently if I hadn't advocated for myself. I want all new mothers to have the education and tools to keep themselves safe.
