Why I Walk!

APS of Durham goes above and beyond for the animals in Durham County.  Not only do they provide shelter and food, they also provide the animals with necessary medical care.  Whether the only veterinary care needed is just routine vaccinations, to be spayed or neutered, and to be dewormed, or if the animal has sustained an injury or seems to be sick, Durham APS does all that they can to prepare the animals that come through their doors to leave heading into loving forever homes.  The shelter also does a lot of networking with rescue groups throughout the state and country to help as many animals as possible get their happy-ever-after.  The community outreach that the shelter provides is also phenomenal.  Through low-cost spay/neuter programs, the exchange program to the Easy Walk Harness, and vaccine/microchip clinics, they truly show that they care about the pets in the community.

One of my dogs is an APS alum.  She has been with me for 2 and a half years and is an amazing dog!  She excels at the sport of dock diving and has been to the National and World Championships for the sport.  She also is learning the sports of disc and agility and is proving to be a jack of all trades!

I have also had the privilege of serving as a medical foster for Durham APS.  Last year, I helped rehabilitate a dog named Frankie who after many months of care, training, and love was adopted to her much-deserved forever home.  I currently have a medical foster named Lucky Stryke (Stryker) who will be available in the coming months for adoption once he is completely healthy.

Working at Colony Park Animal Hospital, I have had the opportunity to work closely with Durham APS to provide services as needed for animals in their care so I have been able to see from the front lines just how much they do to provide the best care for the animals of Durham.  With donations received for the APS Walk for the Animals, Durham APS will continue to be able to provide the care to animals housed at the shelter waiting for their forever homes and will be able to provide services needed to help pets in the community!  Please donate!!!
