Lawson actually doesn't have Spina Bifida. What?! He has Sacral Agenesis/Caudal Regression Syndrome (which is rarer). Lawson was born with club feet, no tailbone, an extra-half of a vertebra causing scoliosis, shortened-blunt spinal cord, neurogenic bladder and bowel. He's technically a paraplegic because he has sensory and motor impairment of his lower extremitites. Some of these presenting symptoms are similar to Spina Bifida. Thus, about two years ago, we were intorduced to the Spina Bifida Clinic and SBAK. They have been nothing short of amazing. To find a community with similar kids has been such a relief. To return the favor of how helpful they've been, I signed us up for Walk-n-Roll and hope to raise money for this wonderful cause.
