As many of you know, my journey volunteering with the BVSPCA has just begun, but our rescue story began several years ago when we welcomed Lily home. After losing my childhood dog, my heart was in pieces and as many of you know, a house is not a home without a dog (or cat, if that's your thing!). And having purchased our first home, it was time to start looking, and along came Lily. A stray from North Carolina that was transported north to rescue. The rescue, and her foster, were in my hometown (coincidence?). We had to meet her. Long story short, after we met her, wer were in love.Then she came home, and wouldn't come near us for the first few days and refused to be potty-trained. Suddeningly, one evening, she jumped on to the couch and sat right next to me, and finally let me in. Her amazing and fun personality started to show. Several months later, we welcomed our second rescue Pugsley, an 8-week old puppy, that soon became Lily's best friend. 

After having such an incredible experience with our two rescue dogs, Patrick and I quickly became rescue animal advocates and ultimately started putting in the hours to help animals waiting on their forever homes at the BVSPCA. We've been through the challenge of fostering and celebrated the adoptions of animals we've worked with at the shelter. There is no better feeling than seeing an animal find their furever home, knowing they will be so very loved by their new family.

The Walk for Paws event is a 5K fundraiser, a family event, and a celebration of the BVSPCA and the animals that have been, are currently and will be coming through their doors. Please consider donating to our event and help continue the amazing animal welfare work these amazing people and volunteers achieve everyday! We also welcome everyone to sign up and participate in the 5K run or walk, or even just to drop by and enjoy the festivities on April 27th!
