Almost 2 years ago, while vacationing in San Francisco (my first and only time I’ve been to California), I received a call from Gift of Life who told me I was a potential match for an anonymous female suffering from Severe Aplastic Anemia.
I didn’t know who she was or where in the world she resided, but I knew I needed to help. I am thrilled to announce that two months ago, Veronica Ruiz and I met virtually, and it was everything of the sort. She is living, thriving, and dancing through life. I prayed for her speedy recovery, and Gift of Life made it possible.
For those who don’t know, Gift of Life is a public bone marrow and blood stem cell registry. They facilitate transplants for children and adults suffering from life-threatening illnesses, including leukemia, lymphoma, and other cancers and genetic diseases.
My ask is small. I am raising money for The Gift of Life Marrow Registry through their Virtual 5K. If you’re a runner, this is for you! And if you’re not, like me, any amount is highly appreciated. Your donation will help many other people with life-threatening illnesses look forward to a future and a second chance at life.
Fun fact: Veronica and I’s birthdays are a couple days apart, and she lives an hour outside of San Francisco, the place where I received the initial call
