In December of 2020 I was ready to find my furry companion. Adopting a dog during a global pandemic was no joke. Due to the restrictions, most adoptions were being held through applications online and I was recieving little to no responses. Thankfully Brandywine SPCA worked hard to keep their doors open, with safety measures in place to allow for small groups of people to come in for adoptions.
It was still a stressful process. After exploring several Brandywine locations across Delaware and PA, I met Nora the day she arrived on a 100+ animal transport from Tulsa, OK. I knew it was love the moment I saw her. She had not come out of intake and they were unsure when she would be going up for adoption, but that once processed it would be a first come first serve adoption. I decided to wait it out and ended up sitting on the floor outside of her kennel for 5 1/2 hours!
Thankfully a young volunteer and her mother saw me waiting and asked the staff to see if they could make an exception to help speed up her process. Just as they were turning the lights off in the building,I was taken into a room where I signed my paperwork and found out her age and background.
To make this more magical, there was a generous donor who was waving all adoption fees on dogs 6 months and older to help clear the shelters during the holidays. It was an incredible initiative to help the animals and gift I will never forget. I paid $7 in total that day for a collar and left with my best friend.
Nora has changed my life for the better. She is a loyal dog with some of the loudest yawns you'll ever hear. We love hiking, going to the beach and exploring Philadelphia together. I am very grateful to Brandywine for helping to save my best friend. Please consider making a donation in support of Brandwine SPCA. Thank you!
