Growing up, mental illness wasn't something we talked about. As a psychology lover, mother and an aunt, I want to make sure that is not the case for the next generation. Neurodiversity should be normalized. A child should not feel excluded or self-conscious simply because they learn differently.
Bridging the gap
I have watched my sister and other family members work hands on trying to bridge the gap to get children and others with autism the help and resources they need. The one thing I continued to hear was that there was an overwhelming gap when it came to integrating and mainstreaming in the classroom and potential jobs. Many families need communication devices, or technology just for their children to reach their full potential in this fast paced world. Many of these children just need to be given the opportunity to succeed.
As a mother, I hope my child never struggles to access the resources he needs in order to succeed.
