Melanie Hammond Adams, 1965 - June 7, 2023

We are greatly saddened by the passing of Melanie, a servant leader and nonprofit supporter throughout the El Paso County Community, who was the originator of the idea of the Gingerbread Home Build event (an idea that is so engaging that other Habitat affiliates across the country have adopted it).

Born in Seattle, WA to George and Roxanne Hammond, she grew up around the world as the daughter of an Air Force officer. She expressed gratitude for being raised in a loving family and being taught the importance of family values, hard work, and integrity.

Melanie met her husband of 30 years, Sam Adams, while earning her MBA at the University of Colorado, Colorado Springs. And it was in Colorado Springs that Melanie and Sam made their home raising their three sons, Tyler, Matt, and Alex.

A faithful follower of Christ, Melanie spent years of her life dedicating her career to the mission of Junior Achievement USA, inspiring and equipping young people to take ownership of their financial future. She treasured time spent with friends, referring to them as “the spice of life”. Cooking, hiking, skiing, mountain biking, and everything Christmas were also among her favorite things behind traveling.

Her support for Pikes Peak Habitat was driven by both the work they accomplish and the methods they employ - and certainly influenced by the commitment her father has shown through 30+ years volunteering for Pikes Peak Habitat. It is therefore fitting the Gingerbread Home Build event has been conducted since its launch in 2019 during the holiday season she loved, and that the proceeds from it go directly to supporting a veteran family in their quest for affordable homeownership.

Thank you, Melanie!
