Why I Walk

My name is Karen White Rigaud. In 1994 two weeks before my daughter was due to be born, I was at my doctor's appointment and my blood pressure was dangerously high. I was swelling alot including my face and hands. I was getting blurred vision and they found protein in my urine. I was immediately sent to the hospital to be induced and had an emergency c-section the next morning.  We had a beautiful, healthy girl! I however was only getting worse. I.now also had developed HELLP syndrome.  After a long stay in the hospital, coding once, and receiving platelets, plasma, and whole blood, I started to improve and by the grace of God was able to join my little family waiting at home! She was our only child for fear that this would happen again. My sister and daughter went on to both have pre-eclampsia with all their pregnancies causing preemies as well as postpartum.  They are all doing great today! I pray that a cure can be found for this terrible condition as well as more awareness for women's health. Thank you for considering donating!
