Meet Luna!

This year for Bark on the Boards, I'm fundraising in honor of Luna, one of our longest stay canine residents!

Sweet Luna is a 7 year old pup who has been in our shelter for almost a full year. She originally came into our shelter as a stray in April of 2023, was adopted in December of 2023 and returned just a few days later for being too large for the home. That's 294 days.

Luna's an excellent example of many of the animals that come into our care at the Brandywine Valley SPCA - she ended up at the shelter due to no fault of her own, and why she's still waiting for her furever home is anybody's guess. She doesn't have a particularly heartbreaking story to tell, she's just a good girl waiting for the right home... and because of that, she's overlooked. She started her journey with us at our Georgetown campus and was moved to our campus in West Chester, PA to expand her potential adopter pool.

As a cute mixed breed with perky ears, Luna greets everyone she meets with a open-mouthed smile. She's a Shelter Skip Day star; members of the community take her out constantly for days on the town, outdoor dining, pup cups, and long walks. Each time she's brought out to meet her new human friends, she knows the drill - she stands still for her harness and vest and waits patiently until they're ready to take her out to the car. Once she's being walked to the car, her patience turns to excitement, and when she hears the 'beep beep' of the car unlocking, her pace quickens and she'll lead you right to the car and help herself to whichever seat suits her. She's good with kids and walks nicely on leash, and is a relatively mellow girl who'd be good for many homes.

At Brandywine Valley SPCA, we commit to finding our animals the right homes and don't euthanize just because we have more animals coming in, or because an animal has been with us for a while.

Luna's a perfect example of that. There are many other companions like Luna waiting for their right family to come forward who need medical, behavior, and general care. Multiply that by the around 50 new animals we take in a day, and you can imagine, this is not cheap. Fundraisers like Bark on the Boards allow us to remain dedicated to our animals, even if it takes a while, and provide them what they need while they wait.

Share Luna's story and donate to help us care for Luna and other longer-stay animals like her. Be it $1, $5, $50, or $150 - every dollar makes a difference!
