"I hate this lousy weather!"
Words I will forever miss hearing since they always made me smile. Though she might have hated Chicago winters, my mother was a proud Chicagoan, having lived in The Chicagoland area practically her entire life.
She did, however, have a passion for assisting in childhood development, donating to various charities and fundraisers, inspiring many to do the same, while actively taking part in social and ideological events and causes, and she definitely loved a challenge.
I'm certain that she would have called me crazy while at the same time standing there, holding a towel, and cheering me on as I take "the plunge."
On Sunday, March 3, 2024 I will participate in the 2024 Chicago Polar Plunge, one of the city's most popular winter fundraising events! It will come only 4 weeks since my mother's sudden passing. Her memory will eternally warm my heart, especially while Chicago's Lake Michigan chills the rest of my body.
The challenge of the Chicago Polar Plunge into Lake Michigan’s winter waters is to support thousands of Chicagoans who participate in Special Olympics Chicago/Special Children’s Charities programs. With your support, people with intellectual disabilities have the opportunity to discover new strengths, abilities, and accomplishments.
