This winter, I will be participating in something very near and dear to my soul; the 2024 Holiday Appeal to benefit Emotions Matter, Inc. This non-profit organization and the Holiday Appeal are important to me as they provide free resources to help people (like me) who live with BPD. By fundraising, I want to show support for EM, as they have for the entire BPD community
What is BPD? Up to 1.6% of Americans suffer from borderline personality disorder (BPD), a serious mental illness characterized by emotional dysregulation, impulsivity, depression and suicidality. Thankfully, with proper treatment and community support, individuals with BPD experience meaningful, productive lives.
Why I care: Millions of Americans struggle without access to expensive BPD treatments often not covered by health insurance. BPD continues to be the most stigmatized mental illness, due to lack of public awareness and clinical education. Sadly, up to 10% of those diagnosed with BPD end their lives to suicide.
What the funds are for: I'm participating in this event to try to change that. The 2024 Holiday Appeal aims to bring public attention to this disorder and to offer the BPD community HOPE. Funds raised from the appeal will support Emotions Matter’s innovative peer support group programs, conferences, educational resources and advocacy efforts in 2025.
