All children need and deserve a village that is willing to support them holistically (educationally, emotionally, financially, etc.,) as they mature to adulthood. As a proud graduate of John R. Buchtel High School, I wholeheartedly support young people and the Project GRAD Akron mission.
Name of your favorite teacher and what made the person special to you: My third grade teacher at Rankin Elementary. Mrs. Wilson was my favorite. She was smart, funny, and Black. She was a role model of excellence for me as one of the few Black teachers that I had throughout my educational career.
What were some of your most enjoyable times in school? (preschool through college): School in general was enjoyable because I love(d) to learn. English, Social Studies. and Orchestra were some of my favorite subjects.
Looking back over the years, what advice would you give to your high school self or college self? Don’t take everything so seriously. Have more fun!
