Why I Walk

My pregnancy journey was not an easy one. I had previously miscarried, and I worried about the wellbeing of the second baby after being hospitalized. I was hospitalized twice. When Id developed preeclampsia, I had not realized some of the preeclampsia symptoms were even a red flag. I had already been going through a rough time in so many ways, that I was unaware of preeclampsia symptoms. 

Gratefully my OBGYN caught it and was able to diagnose and monitor me. I still had little understanding of the dangers. I only knew that they wanted to push the delivery date up as soon and safely as possible. My fears and disappointment that the pregnancy that I so wanted was not going well broke my heart. Delivery day came and she was born with no real major complications.

Two years later I learned that survivors of pre-eclampsia were at higher risk of heart disease, stroke, and heart failure! I only learned this through an email for a study. I knew I had to get active about my heart health and share this knowledge with other survivors. I knew I was not the only survivor in the dark about the extra risk factors to our health; thus, bringing me here today. Excited and happy to be working with the Preeclampsia Foundation.
