Name: Andrew Fintel and Amy Vizcarra

Company: Blue Ridge Cancer Care

Title: Oncologist/Hospitalist

Goal: $2,000

Why I am Participating:

We are Amy Vizcarra and Andrew Fintel, married physicians who are happy to support VBCF in a campaign that helps promote breast cancer prevention and detection.

My husband, Andrew is a local hematologist/oncologist with Blue Ridge Cancer Care and I am a hospitalist, currently taking a break from clinical medicine to help raise our family. We have 3 super fun children and a sweet chocolate lab.

We have witnessed first-hand in our patients, family and friends how important it is to have access to preventative healthcare and the opportunity for early detection.

We are very happy to help support a campaign that helps to give those here in our local community that access.

What is a Sole Star?

The Sole Stars campaign engages leaders in our communities as representatives in the fight against breast cancer.  During the month-long campaign, each Sole Star will raise or give a minimum of $1,000, which will be used to support the work of the Virginia Breast Cancer Foundation (VBCF.) The money raised through the Roanoke Sole Stars campaign will pay for breast health services like diagnostic mammograms, MRIs, ultrasounds and biopsies for uninsured and underinsured women in Southwest Virginia.

Sole (noun): the undersurface of a shoe; the sole is meant to provide footwear with the necessary support, giving traction and protection from the surfaces it will be in contact with.

VBCF Sole Star (noun): a very important person providing support for our mission to eradicate breast cancer by raising awareness and funds in their community and providing traction for our mission; willing to have fun while wearing awesome pink shoes!
