Why I am Participating:
My husband and I have lived in Roanoke for 15 years. We have a son, 10, and 2 dogs, 12 and 3 months. While my husband has his own construction business, I have worked for Branch for 13 years. My current position is Senior Contracts and Compliance Specialist.
In my free time, I'm a PTA mom, a sports mom, and a dog mom. I attend church and enjoy my indoor cycling class at the YMCA. We like to travel whenever we get the opportunity and enjoy time spent with family and friends.
In 2022, I became a “Fighter” when I was diagnosed with Stage 4 Metastatic Breast Cancer. Breast cancer doesn't discriminate. It doesn't matter how active you are or how you live your life. I went to the doctor regularly and got all the required scans, including yearly mammograms. I have always lived my life with the philosophy that everything happens for a reason – good or bad.
So, I have embraced my story and share it with others when the opportunity presents itself. I hope that my experience and positive outlook will encourage others not to give up when Breast Cancer comes knocking at their door. With funding and continued research, I believe we will be able to eradicate Breast Cancer in the future.
I am honored to be chosen to be a Virginia Breast Cancer Foundation (VBCF) Sole Star and wear the PINK shoes so I can help raise funds and awareness that will support the Roanoke Valley. All funds raised will stay in the Valley. VBCF funds screening and diagnostic mammograms, ultrasounds, biopsies, and MRIs for those who do not have insurance or cannot afford the out-of-pocket cost in Southwest Virginia. So please support me as I wear these PINK shoes as a VBCF Sole Star and help me raise funds for this very personal cause.
