Hi, friends and family!

As many of you know, I have been an employee and foster mom at Capital Area Humane Society for almost three years now. It's hard to pick just one story that exemplifies the impact CAHS makes in the greater Lansing community, but I will share Squash's journey with you. 

Squash was originally surrendered to CAHS over a year ago. She has always been a sweet lady (with a dash of spice), so she was adopted not long after that. In May 2024, she was found as a stray and brought back to the shelter by a good Samaritan. She had a laceration on her leg, and we were not quite sure how she ended up lost outdoors. Luckily, CAHS was there to provide her with food, shelter, medical care, and love, just when she needed it most.

Squash started showing signs of stress and anxiety, which dimmed her loving demeanor. She had been looking for a forever home for almost two months, when I decided to take give her a shelter break as a foster. Soon after, Squash's social and sassy demeanor blossomed, and my home became her kingdom. I could see her beginning to trust humans again, and I knew she was going to be my kitty. As my first "foster fail", Squash holds a very special place in my heart.

Every day, CAHS is giving animals like Squash a second chance at a wonderful life. 

With no state or federal funding, and no affiliation with any other humane organizations, it is solely the support of the community that keeps CAHS going.
