Camp Heart Connection is one of Children's Cancer Connection's largest programs. CCC has been dedicated to providing camps for Iowa children affected by childhood cancer and their families for over 35 years. At Children's Cancer Connection they believe in serving the entire family through the entire journey, which makes their camp programming unique and unforgettable. CCC offers six different camp programs throughout the year including one weeklong Oncology Camp, one weeklong Sibling Camp, two weeklong Day Camps, a weekend Spring Family Camp, a weekend Fall Family Camp, and a weekend Teen Camp.
Since 2013 I have been involved with Camp Heart Connection and Children's Cancer Connection in some way, shape, or form. From my first summer as a camper in 2013 6 months after my sister's diagnosis, to the time I started volunteering at kids club, to my summer as a Leader in Training, and so much more CCC has provided a home for myself and so many others. Camp was always the place I felt the most at home, and as I have transitioned to the volunteer side of things throughout high school and now college seeing kids find that same sense of home is unlike anything else.
This Summer will be my first year offically on staff!!! I can not wait to continue being involved with my camp family. Anyone who knows me knows a piece of my heart belongs to the people at camp. Camp provides a magical place where kids whos lives feel less than normal get to just be kids for a week. They get to do all the activities you think of when you think of summer camp, arts and crafts, rockwall climbing, zipline, archery, horse back riding, and so much more.
The best part is camp is free to all campers, this is where you all come in. At CCC, they are dedicated to making sure everyone can experience camp, regaurdless of money. No one is ever charged any amount to come to camp and they work year round to make sure every camper can have a magical experience!
