Children's Cancer Connection was introduced to my family while I was still in treatment at the University of Iowa and it has been an incredibly important part of my life ever since. Let me tell you why.

Since 1988, Children's Cancer Connection has been dedicated to providing a week long residential camp for children diagnosed with cancer living or treated in the state of Iowa and also providing an identical week of camp for siblings of children diagnosed. I truly believe Camp Heart Connection is one of the best experiences any kid with cancer or sibiling gets to have, as it gives them the unique oppertunity to connect with others that have gone through the same experiences. Not many 5-18 year olds who have been affected by cancer have the chance to feel like they are truly understood in everyday life. 

My very first year of camp was when I was 5 years old. Before then I had always refused to stay anywhere without my parents, but as soon as I walked into my cabin, my eyes lit up and my parents could tell this would be different. That year I met the most amazing people, who not only understood me but people I could relate to. I quickly learned that everyone at camp is treated like we are all apart of one big family. Having scars, whether emotional or physical connected us together, and I have returned ever since.

Besides the many people you get connected with at camp, Children's Cancer Connection also provides amazing activities for the campers including games, horse back riding, zip lining, rock climbing, arts and crafts, and so much more. Families don't have to worry about cost because all CHC Camps are offered at no cost. At CCC, they are dedicated to making sure everyone can experience camp.
