Camp Heart Connection is one of Children’s Cancer Connection’s largest and most impactful programs. For over 35 years, CCC has been dedicated to providing camps for Iowa children affected by childhood cancer and their families. What makes these camps so special is their commitment to serving the entire family throughout the entire journey—something that truly sets their programming apart.
CCC offers six different camp experiences each year, including a weeklong Oncology Camp, a weeklong Sibling Camp, two weeklong Day Camps, a Spring Family Camp, a Fall Family Camp, and a Teen Camp weekend. Each program creates a space where families can connect with others who truly understand what they’re going through, while building lifelong memories filled with joy, support, and community.
Last year, Camp Heart Connection returned to its full pre-pandemic format, and hundreds of campers and their families experienced the magic once again. One of the most incredible things about CCC is that every single camp is offered completely free of charge. Families never have to worry about cost—CCC works year-round to ensure that every camper has the opportunity to attend and feel included.
This mission is especially important to me. My big brother passed away from leukemia in 2017, and CCC has been a huge part of my life ever since. I have been attending camp for 11 years, and it has given me a community that understands grief, resilience, and hope in a way that few others can. Over time, I’ve been able to give back by serving as a Leader in Training (LIT) and now as a Youth Board Member from 2024–2026. These roles have allowed me to support younger campers and help create the same meaningful experiences that shaped me.
