About Jan-Karl Burkhardt, MD

Dr. Jan-Karl Burkhardt, MD, Division Head, Cerebrovascular Surgery, Associate Professor of Neurosurgery at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania, and a long standing member of the TBF’s Scientific Advisory Board, will be participating in the Qatar Airways Ironman 70.3 on June 8th. Originally from Germany, Jan did his medical training and his residency in Switzerland, staying on for several years there as a member of the faculty. Originally, he says, he gravitated to neurosurgery due to its many sub specialties involving illnesses of the brain and spine. Gradually, he became interested in vascular neurosurgery as he was greatly encouraged by the new options available for treatment for these conditions and for their potential to help the many young people affected.
Dr. Burkhardt will be participating in the Ironman in support of The Bee Foundation For Brain Aneurysm Awareness specifically funding research for ways physical activity can help prevent aneurysm ruptures and the role of rehab of secondary injury after rupture.
