I was diagnosed and hospitalized with severe preeclampsia when I was only 23 weeks pregnant. I spent the next 3 weeks in the hospital before I developed HELLP Syndrome and my health declined to a point where we had no choice but to deliver our baby. Our Mighty Mr. T was born very premature, at only 26 weeks gestational age and just 1 pound 14 ounces. He then spent the next 6 months in the NICU overcoming his prematurity and related health concerns. But we all survived thank goodness, and our little man is such a miracle - he is a wonderfully happy and healthy little boy who has brought us so much joy.
Had it not been for my suffering from preeclampsia, our experience would have been entirely different. I hope that one day more is known about the causes and treatments for preeclampsia so that expectant families don't ever have to go through the life changing ordeal that we did.
