Running has never been just running to me. I started running with my mom when I was about 12 years old doing local 5k's. I wasn't happy at the time to agree to these races, but I always felt better when we crossed the finish line. Running has allowed me to go into complete remission after having been diagnosed with extreme depressive disorder at age 14. As a teen struggling with depression, there aren't many ways to cope that seem to work. But, running did the trick for me. I was able to put on my headphones, listen to music at full volume, and forget about what was in my head. Now I am 22 and have not had a depressive episode in years. I no longer run to help cope with these thoughts. I run for those who can't. I run for those who lost their loved ones to depression. I run for those who are ill and would do anything to get out of bed. Finally, I run to show others just how powerful I am. I am asking for your generous donations to assist me in completing my second marathon to spread awareness for teen mental health. Please join me in continuing this fight!

Erika's Lighthouse is determined to make sure no young person feels alone in their depression. We are dedicated to creating a community of empathy and education. We create middle school and high school teen depression awareness programs so educators and teens can create safe spaces to learn about depression, letting students know they are never alone, and there is somewhere to turn.
