Help Me Run for Mental Health Awareness!

I am excited to run the Chicago Marathon in October 2025 while making a meaningful impact by supporting Erika’s Lighthouse. Erika’s Lighthouse is dedicated to breaking the stigma surrounding mental health and empowering teens with tools, resources, and inclusive programs that bring hope and support into schools and communities. Their work ensures that no young person has to face mental health challenges alone. My goal is to raise $2,000 to help Erika’s Lighthouse continue its mission. Your support, no matter the amount, can make a difference. Thank you for helping me reach this goal and for being part of a brighter, healthier future for our youth!

It is incredible what running can do for your mental health. In May 2024, I challenged myself to run a marathon. At that point, I could not run for more than 30 minutes consecutively and had never run more than four miles (6.4 km). I signed up to run the Philadelphia Marathon on November 24th, 2024. I had six months to train for a marathon from nothing. Sure, I was years out from losing 80 pounds (36 kg), but my mind was being tethered by the insecure, obese, and weak-minded character that defined my childhood. One month into training for the marathon, my mind began to operate with confidence, discipline, and consistency in such a way that was previously incomprehensible to me.

Race day reared its head, but the 1,300+ miles (2,100+ km) I put into training paid off well before then. I ran a 3-hour, 30-minute marathon. Not bad for someone who was born into an unathletic background, who was considered the slowest person on his recreation, high school, and college basketball teams, and who was once 260 pounds (118 kg) on pace to be a 400-pound adult.

I want to take my running journey a step further by giving back to those who need it the most. I had the self-esteem beaten out of me as a child, and I want to do my part to prevent that for tomorrow's youth.
