Name of your favorite teacher and what made the person special to you (any grade level, including college): Ms. Carl, my fourth-grade teacher, was truly special to me. She unlocked the genius in me at an early age and made learning both fun and meaningful. She had a unique ability to challenge me while also supporting me, holding me accountable to think critically and perform at a high level. Because of her, I began to see my own potential in a way I hadn't before and that has stayed with me ever since.
What were some of your most enjoyable times in school (any grade level): Some of my most enjoyable times in school were during my undergraduate years at Walsh University, where I served as the Black Student Union President. In that role, I had the opportunity to advocate for students, amplify their voices, and work toward creating a more equitable and inclusive campus environment. I also enjoyed building communitybringing students together through events, meaningful conversations, and shared experiences. Those moments not only shaped my leadership skills but also deepened my passion for service, equity, and empowering others.
Looking back over the years, what advice would you give to your high school self or college self: Looking back, I would tell my high school and college self that it does not matter how you start, it matters how you finish. Stay focused, stay resilient, and trust the process. You are brilliant, capable, and full of potential, even in moments when you may doubt yourself. Do not shrink. Take up space, use your voice, and believe in your ability to do amazing things. Your potential is endless, and most importantly, you matter.
The reason(s) you are raising funds to support Project GRAD Akron ’s scholarships and programs: I am raising funds to support Project GRAD Akron because I deeply believe in its mission to prepare, support, and inspire students to achieve academic success and pursue higher education. As an educator and leader, my work is rooted in creating access, opportunity, and environments where all students can thrive. Project GRAD Akron’s commitment to supporting urban youth aligns directly with my belief that when we intentionally invest in young people, we can change the trajectory of their lives. Providing scholarships, mentorship, and resources is not just about education, it is about opening doors, building confidence, and helping students realize their full potential. When we pour into our youth, we are not only impacting individual futures, we are strengthening our communities for generations to come.
Favorite quote: “The people in those rooms are not all that much smarter than you. If they’re in the room, you deserve to be there too.” President Barack Obama
Anything else you would like to share or highlight: I am deeply committed to creating spaces where people feel seen, valued, and empowered to reach their full potential. Whether through my professional work or community involvement, I strive to uplift others and create opportunities that make a lasting impact. Being part of this experience is an honor, and I am grateful for the opportunity to support and celebrate our youth.
